About Jambyn Dashdondog

Žambyn Dašdondog (*1941) is one of the most important children book authors of Mongolia and repeatedly awarded. He has deserved well for the development of Mongolian children’s literature and the founding of the Mongolian section of IBBY.

In the beginning he mostly wrote very impressive by their rhythm poems for children about every day and school life of Mongolian children. His first booklet (Argatai huu – Аргатай хүү – The clever son) he published as early as 1958, but the verses had been written even earlier, when Dašdondog was 17 years old and still at school.

In his prose for children he very often impressingly tells about the traditional life and habits of Mongolian nomadic cattle-breeders, about nature and wild animals in the Mongolian grasslands and the Gobi desert. He also retells folk stories from oral tradition and uses Mongolian children’s folklore. Some of his books are published bilingual or translated into English or Russian.

Dašdondogs books had been chosen several times for the International Youth Library’s selection of international children’s literature “The White Ravens” and exhibited at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
